Salesforce Moves To Buy Fin For $3.6 Billion To Expand Agentforce AI Customer Service
Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Fin, the customer agent company formerly known as Intercom, in a deal valued at approximately $3.6 billion.
The move gives Salesforce a sharper play in AI-powered customer service, as businesses look for autonomous agents that can answer, resolve, and escalate issues without adding complexity.
Fin’s core product is its AI Agent, which resolves complex customer queries end-to-end across live chat, email, WhatsApp, SMS, phone, Slack, and other channels. It is powered by Apex, Fin’s proprietary AI model built for support.
Salesforce said Apex has demonstrated industry-leading resolution rates that outperform top commercially available frontier models, shifting the conversation beyond faster replies and toward measurable outcomes.
Fin CEO Says Salesforce Can Scale The Platform Faster
Fin CEO and co-founder Eoghan McCabe described the deal as a way to take the company’s customer service AI further than it could alone.
"This is a major win for consumers of the world,” said McCabe. “Our technology has defined this category and set the new standards for what great customer service looks like today. By joining forces with Salesforce, we can deploy it far and wide at a rate far faster than we could have ever achieved on our own."
McCabe also said customers should expect continuity, with him staying CEO, Des running R&D, and the company continuing to build Apex and Operator.
The transaction is expected to close in the last quarter of Salesforce’s fiscal 2027.
Fin’s AI Agent Adds Fast Deployment Options For Customer Support Teams
The acquisition is also designed to strengthen Agentforce, Salesforce’s enterprise platform for building and deploying AI agents across organizations.
Building on Agentforce, which reached $1.2 billion in ARR in Q1 FY27, up 205% year-over-year, Fin’s packaged offerings and proprietary models are expected to add faster deployment options for service organizations.
Upon close, Salesforce and Fin plan to give customers more ways to roll out AI agents across service operations, including options suited for SMBs and commercial organizations that need quick launches, integrations, and measurable outcomes.
The broader pitch is flexibility. Salesforce wants Agentforce to remain customizable for enterprise-scale transformations, while Fin brings ready-to-deploy service agents for businesses that want to move faster.
