Overview
Commercial whisky production runs on steam, and at William Grant & Sons' Girvan Distillery in Scotland, which produces over 100 million liters of alcohol a year, steam quality is critical. Poor level control on the boiler feed was causing water hammer, excess condensate, and frequent valve failures, while also creating inefficiencies in gas usage and energy performance.
Grundfos replaced the distillery's fixed-speed boiler feed pumps with iSOLUTIONS CRIE pumps featuring integrated variable speed drives, removing the modulating valve entirely and putting precise, automated control in the hands of the pump itself.
